What it does
myNoise is an advanced sound generator designed to create personalized audio environments. It offers a vast library of high-quality soundscapes, from natural ambiences like forests and rain to synthetic noises and meditative tones. The app's core function is to help users with focus, relaxation, sleep, or masking tinnitus by giving them granular control over their auditory world.
Where it shines
myNoise stands out with its deep customization. The app's signature feature, visible from 00:22, is a set of ten sliders that allow you to mix and match individual sound layers within a single soundscape. This turns passive listening into an active, creative process. Another highlight is its direct, goal-oriented onboarding (00:10), where a simple quiz tailors initial recommendations to the user's specific needs, be it for ADHD, focus, or sleep. The user interface is clean, dark, and focused entirely on the audio experience.
UX highlights
- Interactive Sound Mixing: The slider-based sound engine (00:22) is the core of the experience, offering intuitive and powerful real-time audio customization.
- Preset Management: Users can save their custom mixes as presets and set a default for any soundscape, as seen at 01:07. This encourages repeat engagement.
- Efficient Onboarding: The onboarding is extremely brief, consisting of a welcome grid and a single personalization quiz (00:10), getting users to the main content in under 20 seconds.
- Comprehensive Settings: The app provides extensive control over preferences, including theme, sound level, haptic feedback, and even animation speed (03:23).
- Content Organization: Soundscapes are well-organized into logical categories like "Natural Noises" and "Landscapes," which are easily browsable from the main screen (02:19).
- Integrated Library: A dedicated library (02:40) keeps track of downloaded and favorited soundscapes, making it easy to access preferred content.
Monetization & growth
myNoise uses a refreshingly straightforward monetization model. While many apps push subscriptions, myNoise presents a one-time purchase for lifetime access when a user tries to play a locked sound (03:06). The paywall copy frames the $19.99 purchase as a way to support the small team and future development, appealing to user goodwill. Before this, the app offers a 14-day period to discover all soundscapes, giving users ample time to understand the value before committing.
Who it’s for
This app is ideal for anyone who uses ambient sound as a tool for productivity, wellness, or health. This includes students and professionals seeking to improve focus, individuals looking for relaxation or sleep aids, and people managing conditions like tinnitus. The deep customization also appeals to audiophiles and sound designers who appreciate having fine-grained control over their audio environment.
Notes & opportunities
The app is exceptionally well-designed for its purpose. One small point of friction is the direct system permission prompt for notifications (00:15) without a preceding warm-up screen to provide context. While this keeps the onboarding short, a brief explanation could improve opt-in rates. Additionally, the process of creating a new preset (01:19) is smooth, but discovering the feature requires opening a sub-menu, which some users might miss.
