What it does
MojiLab is a utility for finding, creating, and sharing stickers and GIFs. The app provides a vast, categorized library of existing content for users to browse and use in messaging apps. Its main feature is a set of DIY tools that allow users to create their own static or animated emojis from personal photos and GIFs, complete with custom backgrounds, text, and other embellishments.
Where it shines
MojiLab's strength lies in its dual focus on consumption and creation. The pre-made sticker library is extensive, with clear categories like 'Meme' and 'Cartoon' making content discovery easy (00:33). However, the app truly stands out with its DIY editor (02:01). This toolset is surprisingly robust, allowing users to make highly personalized content by combining their own photos with backgrounds, text, and other stickers. The ability to create and save these creations into custom packs (01:25) provides a powerful organizational tool that encourages deep, long-term engagement.
UX highlights
- Categorized Browsing: The main library uses clear, tappable category filters at the top, allowing users to quickly jump between different styles of content like 'Hot', 'Lover', and 'Meme' (00:32).
- Layered Management: Users have multiple ways to manage stickers. They can add a sticker to a simple favorites list (00:50) or create dedicated, named packs for better organization (01:25).
- Comprehensive Static Editor: The DIY editor for photos is feature-rich, offering adjustments for rotation and scale (02:22), background replacement (02:13), and text overlays (02:30).
- Simple GIF Editing: While less powerful than the static editor, the GIF creator offers a straightforward way to add a colored background to an existing GIF (03:31), making it quick and easy to use.
Monetization & growth
The app employs an aggressive, front-loaded monetization strategy. Upon first launch, users are immediately presented with an unavoidable App Store paywall to start a free trial (00:06). There is no way to explore the app's content before committing. Later, in the settings menu, a 'My membership' screen (05:30) presents alternative subscription options, including weekly and monthly plans, suggesting an upsell or plan management path for existing users. The app also includes a standard sharing feature (05:35) to encourage organic growth.
Who it’s for
MojiLab is designed for highly active users of messaging platforms who want to elevate their conversations beyond standard emojis. It caters to two main groups: those who want a vast library of trending and niche stickers at their fingertips, and creative individuals who enjoy making their own personalized memes and reactions to share with friends.
Notes & opportunities
The user feedback system relies heavily on a series of visually identical black toast notifications (e.g., 00:50, 01:14, 01:30). While functional, this can feel repetitive and lacks visual delight. The flow for creating a new custom pack and adding a sticker to it is also quite long, involving about seven distinct taps and a text entry field. Simplifying this process could significantly improve the user experience for one of the app's core creative features.
