What it does
EcoGPT is an AI chatbot with an environmental mission. It functions as a multipurpose assistant, capable of answering questions, searching the web, and generating images from text prompts. The app's core premise is that for every 100 queries a user makes, a real tree is planted, directly linking digital interaction to real-world ecological impact.
Where it shines
The app's greatest strength is its seamless integration of purpose and utility. The onboarding brilliantly quantifies a user's potential impact (00:19), turning a simple quiz into a motivational tool. The user profile isn't just for settings; it's a dynamic 'eco-dashboard' (04:59) that tracks trees planted, CO2 saved, and progress through a badge system. This gamified approach keeps the mission front and center. Additionally, the AI chat builds trust by providing a 'Sources' button (02:55), allowing users to verify the information it provides.
UX highlights
- Gamified Onboarding: A personalization quiz at 00:12 directly calculates and displays the user's projected positive impact, creating early buy-in.
- Clear Trial Communication: The paywall screen at 00:58 uses a simple visual timeline to explain the 3-day free trial, reducing user anxiety about subscriptions.
- Multimodal AI Interaction: The app supports text queries (01:53), voice input (02:22), and image-based questions (04:25), offering flexible ways to interact with the AI.
- Profile as Dashboard: The profile screen (04:59) serves as a central hub for tracking personal environmental stats and collecting achievement badges, reinforcing positive behavior.
- Transparent AI: By including a 'Sources' button (02:55) with its answers, the AI provides a layer of transparency and trust often missing in similar tools.
- Shareable Progress: Users can share a stylized summary of their eco-stats (05:03), creating a potential growth loop centered on positive achievement.
Monetization & growth
The app presents a soft paywall after the initial onboarding flow. It offers a 3-day free trial for a single monthly subscription plan, with a discount prominently displayed (00:58). The monetization strategy is tied to unlocking the full 'Pro' experience, which includes unlimited usage and image generation. Growth mechanics are built in through a friend referral system (05:39) and the ability to share a visually appealing summary of one's environmental impact on social media.
Who it’s for
EcoGPT is designed for environmentally conscious individuals who use AI tools but are concerned about their carbon footprint. It appeals to users motivated by gamification, tangible goals, and a sense of contributing to a larger cause. Its feature set makes it suitable for students, writers, and creatives who need a versatile AI assistant but want their usage to have a positive real-world impact.
Notes & opportunities
While the onboarding is strong, the immediate App Tracking Transparency prompt at 00:00 could be deferred until after the value proposition is more firmly established. In the main chat interface, the connection between a query and its contribution to planting a tree is not immediately visible. A small progress bar or counter within the chat screen could more frequently reinforce the app's core loop and mission during day-to-day use.
