What it does
AdAstra is a mobile marketplace connecting users with a wide range of psychic advisors for guidance on life's questions. The app's core feature is one-on-one live chat, allowing users to get real-time readings on topics like love, relationships, and career. Beyond live chat, it also offers a catalog of pre-packaged premium services, such as energy cleansing and tarot readings, that users can purchase with in-app currency.
Where it shines
AdAstra excels at creating a direct path to its core value. The onboarding is swift, getting users from sign-up to browsing advisors in under 40 seconds (00:07 - 00:40). The advisor profiles are rich with information, including ratings, number of readings, and detailed user reviews (00:54), which helps build trust. A key highlight is the post-chat experience; after a session ends, the app immediately presents a contextual 50% discount for the next session with that specific advisor (02:22), effectively encouraging repeat engagement.
UX highlights
- Fast to Value: The app prioritizes getting users to the main advisor marketplace quickly, deferring detailed profile setup.
- Rich Social Proof: Advisor profiles prominently feature star ratings, total readings, and a long list of user reviews, helping users make informed choices (00:54).
- Favorite Pinning: Users can 'favorite' an advisor, which pins them to a special section at the top of the feed for easy access (00:49).
- Clear 'Online' Status: A green 'online' tag makes it easy to see which advisors are available for an immediate chat.
- Gamified Rewards: A 'spin the wheel' feature provides a fun, low-stakes way to earn in-app credits, encouraging daily returns (03:00).
- Multi-faceted Service Offering: The app neatly separates live chat from a 'Practices' section (03:12), catering to different user needs and creating multiple revenue streams.
Monetization & growth
The app operates on a credit-based system. Users get an initial free chat allowance (e.g., 3 free minutes) and must then purchase credits to continue. Credit packages are displayed when a user runs out of free time or navigates to their profile (02:07). The most effective monetization tactic observed is the post-chat coupon (02:22), which offers a significant discount to incentivize the user's first purchase. The app also features a gamified wheel to award small amounts of credits, potentially lowering the barrier for users to try a paid service.
Who it’s for
AdAstra is designed for individuals seeking spiritual guidance, clarity, or advice on personal matters. The user base likely skews towards those interested in astrology, tarot, and psychic readings. The app caters to two main use cases: users who want immediate answers through live chat, and those looking for more structured spiritual services or practices they can purchase and consume over time.
Notes & opportunities
The chat interface is functional but very basic. While the user is typing, the psychic sends multiple messages (01:54), including asking "Are you there, dear?" (03:59 in a later chat). This could create pressure or feel interruptive. Introducing a typing indicator for the user could improve the psychic's awareness and the conversation's flow. Additionally, the app asks for the user's date of birth twice: once in the chat (01:52) and again in the formal profile setup (04:44), which is a redundant step that could be streamlined.
